Creekside Quilts & Wooden Works creates fine quality hand crafted quilts, wall hangings, cross stitch, pillowcases, scarves and wooden notions for the quilter and collector.
The process of making a quilt at Creekside Quilts begins with the selection of fabric. The fabric is then scanned into the computer to be used in the quilt design program EQ6.
There is usually a relationship between the fabric and the quilt block pattern used. For instance, a cowboy themed quilt will have Texas Star or Lone Star, or Cowboys Around Cheyenne auditioned to be used in the quilt design. Many quilt block patterns are auditioned before the final one, two or three are selected for the final quilt design.
Sometimes the quilt design comes together quite rapidly but other times it can take 4-5 hours to get the colors and fabrics adjusted just right to make the secondary patterns stand out. Look for these secondary patterns in quilts for some are quite amazing.
Once the quilt has been designed, sample blocks are made and if they look ok, all of the blocks are made and the quilt top is finalized. The backing is chosen with as much care as the fabrics for the front. The batting choice is very important and at Creekside Quilts we use 100% Organic Cotton or a wonderful product of 50% Bamboo 50% Cotton most of the time. Sometimes 80/20 Warm & Natural or Hobbs Premium will be used.
The binding on the quilts, which is the finishing touch on the quilt has of late been sewn with a selection of decorative machine stitching. A quilt destined to be an heirloom quilt would still get a hand finished binding but the quilts made at Creekside Quilts are made to be used and loved so a machine sewn binding is more durable and time saving.
